This morning I headed for Asprokremmos Dam Wood again after a message from Colin Davis at 7.35 informing the group a SEMI-COLLARED FLYCATCHER was present. I was determined to see and photograph this Species. On arrival Colin was the only Birder there. He told me where he'd seen it, then left shortly afterwards. I was on my own, which was fine.
The next couple of hours came and went with a few more Birders arriving. I covered all areas of the Wood but didn't see anything except for numerous Eastern Bonelli's Warblers and a couple of Hoopoes.
I returned to my original position and waited some more. Then...a flash of Black and White!
I moved my car onto a clearing nearer to the sighting, hoping it would return...whatever it was! Now then, Ficedula Flycatchers can be confusing...at least to me...and Merlin come to that!
Quality, length and angle of view can influence ID. Especially when you don't get much opportunity to see some of them. Looking at images of SEMI-COLLARED seems to show some variables?
Anyway I feel confident in posting this BOC for now...
I have some decent pics but they'll have to wait. I was elated to finally photograph this Species. My perseverance has paid off. Chuffed!!!
I still had some time before lunch, so If drove over the dam before U-turning and coming to rest in the middle. A male Marsh Harrier was performing well at Dam height. I looked higher for my target. After around 20 minutes I saw a speck in the clouds. I tried to follow it with my Bins before switching to my Camera...

Remarkable what a camera can "pull" from such a huge distance!
After lunch we headed for Anarita Park on the strength of a message regarding a Roller. Always a star bird. If you remember it was the last Bird I saw on my 25 Trip. On arrival and after settling Louise up in a favourable spot On started to search for the Bird. Other Birders had the same idea including a couple of Tour Buses. I drove the tracks...and then...in the top of a solitary bush...

You'll appreciate the lack of time to complete tonight's post but I wanted to give a flavour of each day if possible. I'll add more detail and pics tomorrow hopefully. Another Top Cyprus Day.
Stay tuned...
