Texas 19 - Day 1

I got the ball rolling with an early morning visit to Lafitte's Cove after a VERY early, jet lag induced breakfast at Denny's...5.30am!!

Birders were already combing the small woodland. There are quite a few tour groups here and there's also the Featherfest.

Seven species of Warbler were achieved in a relaxed 2 hour session...

Bay-breasted

Black and White
Black-throated Green

Blackburnian

Parula

Yellow
Yellow-throated

Nice!

After an essential visit to La King's early afternoon, (were we met Lorna) we left Louise to browse the historic district while we tried a couple of spots close by. A combination of Sunday tourists and clear skies meant little was seen. The highlight at Kleb Woods was a stunning, if distant Prothonotary Warbler.

Early night needed as we're heading over to the Bolivar peninsular at first light. The stunning male Black-throated Blue Warbler is still at Sabine Woods and the FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported on eBird today at Smith Oaks, High Island?
